Welcome to Europahuset on 20 February 2018

The farmers in the European Union provide food for 500 million consumers. The farmers are furthermore managing landscapes, contributing to a living countryside, helping us tackle the climate challenges and promoting biodiversity. The EU consumers are increasingly demanding sustainable food which is healthy, tasty and affordable. Agriculture thus needs to adapt to higher demands in an ever-changing world. At the same time the fact that 38% of the EU budget is allocated to the agricultural policy is often questioned.

In November 2017 the European Commission published a discussion paper with guidelines for a reformed common agricultural policy. Some of the questions to be answered are the following: How to put our EU budget to best use? How to avoid conflicts of objectives? How to be more cost-effective while meeting our objectives?

Welcome to Europahuset to listen to the discussion between the European Commission and the Federation of Swedish Farmers (LRF) about the future of the agricultural policy.

Here you can find the Discussion Paper ”The Future of Food and Farming”.
