KMS-Horse Powertrain wins world rallycross – taking both driver and constructor titles

The KMS-Horse Powertrain team celebrated a landmark victory in Istanbul over the weekend, with driver Johan Kristoffersson securing his seventh FIA World Rallycross Championship title. The win was the climax of a season of high-stakes competition, with KMS-Horse Powertrain’s collaborative approach playing a vital role in clinching both the drivers’ and constructors’ championships.

The 2024 FIA World Rallycross season, dubbed the “Battle of Technologies,” made history as electric and combustion-engine cars competed together for the first time.

KMS-Horse Powertrain entered the season determined to demonstrate the potential of advanced combustion engine racing, powered by alternative fuels, within this diverse field. By the season’s end, the KMS-Horse Powertrain team had emerged at the top of both standings, a testament to their strategy, engineering, and teamwork.

Johan Kristoffersson arrived at the final race weekend with a decisive 46-point lead, needing only two heats to secure his title. After locking in his seventh world championship, Kristoffersson shifted his focus to supporting his teammate, Ole Christian Veiby, whose semi-final performance — boosted by Kristoffersson’s support — led to his first World Rallycross win.

For Horse Powertrain, this victory underscores its commitment to advancing the capabilities of combustion technology powered by alternative fuels.

“This championship title is exactly what we hoped for when we entered this partnership. Finishing the season on top demonstrates the potential of combustion engines, particularly when powered by alternative fuels. This success is the result of great teamwork, innovation, and engineering, and we’re thrilled to celebrate this achievement together,” said Matias Giannini, CEO of Horse Powertrain.

Tommy Kristoffersson, team principal of KMS, explained how the partnership with Horse Powertrain was essential to the team’s achievements.

“This year has been remarkable for us. We’ve won titles in the past, but with the uncertainties brought by the “Battle of Technologies,” securing both world titles feels even more significant and validating. Our partnership with Horse Powertrain has been essential in maintaining our position as a world-leading team in motorsport,” he said

2024 has been a landmark year for Horse Powertrain, which also took victory in the Unlimited Division at the challenging Pikes Peak hill climb. This FIA World Rallycross Championship victory solidifies its place within international racing.

With both Kristoffersson’s title and Veiby’s first career win secured, the KMS-Horse Powertrain team celebrates an exceptional season that reflects the evolving landscape of motorsport.

Now, Horse Powertrain and its Aurobay division are focusing on this week’s final race in the TCR World Tour, where the Aurobay-powered Cyan Racing Lynk & Co cars are still in contention for both titles.
